Father's Day

Memoir

Status: querying

Synopsis

On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous meets I’m Glad My Mom Died,

but it’s the dad that was never there

In an open letter to the father who will never read it, Lana Sage does the one thing she said she’d never do, no matter how many random strangers told her to: write her memoir.

Breaking down her life into 20 different versions of herself from ages 1-20, Lana goes through the stories of her life, filling in the aspects of her that her absent father missed out on.

Interspersed within each age, we follow Lana Number Nineteen as she reflects on life, stories, memory, mortality, daddy issues, abandonment, family, trauma, and whatever else a nineteen year old can go through, both on her own and with the help of her mindful therapist, Tam.

Family dramedy

Despite not being your everyday mountain hiker, nineteen year old Amanda Kneeds hears a call to The Mountains. In her path to the top, she is onslaught with what might be visions, memories, ghosts, or her subconscious mind trying to tell her something about her family, the stars, grief, and What We Don’t Know. They help or possibly halt her from making it to the top of the mountain. This mountain. For now.

Tragicomedy, Intellectual romance

“I love him who is of a free spirit and a free heart: thus is his head only the bowels of his heart; his heart, however, causes his down-going” ("Thus Spoke Zarathustra", Friedrich Nietzsche). The mind is the place the soul goes to escape the heart. The heart is the place the soul goes to find solace from the mind. Two people at separate ends of artistic thought navigate love, play, philosophy, and what we might call “endings” in this music drama.

Comedy/Dramady, Political, Teen Voice

Tallies in line. Like tally marks, the seven Tallies, who really aren’t that tall, line up on a random Monday after a random gymnastics meet to debrief one by one with the coaches in the elusive Watch Room. While waiting for their number to be drafted, they warm up… or, whatever it is they’re doing. It’s conscription or an assembly line. Constructive criticism for their growth or blatant battering and pitting them against each other. Retirement or quitting. All or nothing. They are: The Tallies.

Family drama, Folkloric adaptation

Adapted, but more so inspired by the German folktale “The Lorelei” or “Die Lore Lay”, Lorelei follows a Shadow-of-a-Home: a girl growing up, a mother who falls into her shadows, and a shadow of a father. It contemplates the stories we tell about our past, the safety of lies, and the illusion of a family.
